A bit of history:
Beauty with Style, the educational institute for Beauty and Body Therapists will celebrate its 12th anniversary on December 9. On this occasion we will look back at what the institute means for Aruba. Owner Martine Koeten goes back in time and remembers that she first felt the need for upgrading and educational programs in Aruba when she started her salon in 1999. It was quiet difficult to find professional therapists to work in her salon. Through her Dutch network she obtained the license to start with the school for education and training of beauticians. In close cooperation with the K.O.C., the Dutch coordination and certification institute for all beautician education Beauty with Style started the first curriculum for beauticians.

Another area of total dedication of Beauty with Style is the care of the diabetic feet with the introduction of the medical pedicure training and care of the rheum feet. These training are supervised by the Pediroda Institute from Holland. Another training which started this year is medical pedicure based specifically on the local situation and needs. The main reason for expanding with this training is because of the constant requests of clients who walk in with severe injury caused by incorrect treatment by cosmetic pedicurists. And that’s why Beauty with Style has the reputation of safeguarding high quality standards.

In her 12 year of existence Beauty with Style contributed greatly to the beauty and care profession. This is based on a corporate vision that we should offer a quality of care as good as the international leaders in the profession. Beauty with Style was one of the initiators of the B.T.A.A., the association of bodyworker therapists of Aruba. Together with the B.T.A.A. and other salons, Beauty with Style initiated the ‘Viva La Donna Day’, a pamper day for cancer patients.

Beauty with Style constantly introduces new educational trainings and workshops on Aruba. In cooperation with Dutch institutions Beauty with Style organized trainings on specific skin problems. We can also mention hot stone massage, lymph drainage, professional and deep tissue massage, special treatment for teen and male skin problems, creative make up, foot reflexology, facelift massage, medical camouflage medico, special massage during pregnancy and baby massage. Not to forget the first workshops of aromatherapy, where it all started.

Having a sustainable vision Beauty with Style always gave back to the community by giving training free of charge to schools and social institutions. Children home Casa Cuna and school for social work EPI were trained in relaxing massage for children and babies. The elderly at the SABA got a beauty session on skin care for the mature skin. And Beauty with Style was always there to provide educational information whenever requested.

In January 2012 we are also starting a new Beautician Training (Schoonheids Opleiding) in Dutch& Spanish. This will be for the last time in Aruba.

hadden we bezoek van mevrouw van Putten uit Nederland en zij gaf een lezing over de diabetisch voet.

Mevrouw van Putten is arts/ auteur/onderzoeker en is gespecialiseerd in de diabetisch voet.

De lezing was duidelijk en erg interessant. De presentatie duidelijk en er was een prijsvraag aanverbonden met mooie prijzen.

Op de avond waren pedicuristes, in opleiding pedicuristes, schoonheidsspecialistes en cosmetische voetverzorgers.

Het heeft ons weer bewust gemaakt dat we niet zomaar met deze voet kunnen omspringen en dat we zeer serieus moeten nemen. De preventie zou meer gestimuleerd moeten worden om amputatie van voet en tenen te voorkomen.

Het is jammer dat er zoveel cosmetische voetverzorgers zich uit geven voor diabetisch pedicuristes terwijl we maar 10 opgeleiden dames hierin hebben.

Kijk daarom ook uit als u naar iemand toe stapt en vraag naar kun diploma, EHBO en hygiëne certificaat, pas als ze dat kunnen overleggen met u dan bent u bij de juiste persoon.

Volgend jaar in oktober komt mevrouw van Putten terug voor andere workshop en praktijk voorbeelden te geven. Dit zal dan op het gebied van kanker reuma en diabeet zijn. We houden u op de hoogte en blijf de site volgen.

Sjaak Koeten van de afdeling EHBO, dit is een Nederlandse opleiding die vertaalt is in papiamento/spaans en engels. Zie de datums van de opleiding.

Mevrouw Gilda Lammens, die voor ons de pedicure opleiding gaat geven. De medische pedicure wordt vanuit nederland gegeven en zal 7 maanden duren waar u een diploma van ontvangt bij alle modulles te hebben gehaald. Bij deze opleiding zit ook de HAMCODE bij.

We zijn bezig met de spaans pedicure opleiding maar hebben dit nog niet helemaal rond met Nederland maar u wordt op de hoogt gehouden.

Als u in de voetverzorging bezig bent ga zelf upgraden want dit hebben we hard nodig in dit vak om de veiligheid en de hygiene te waarborgen.

We waren heel blij dat de heer Visser bij onze lezing op 24 mei 2011 aanwezig was. Meneer Visser is blij dat wij de EHBO opleiding en de hygiene, arbo en milieu code opleiding gaan geven en promote onder alle shoonheidsspecialiste, masseurs en hand en voet verzorgers.

Het is nodig dat dit gegeven wordt in verband met de veiligheid van onze klanten. Meneer Visser wil graag dat de bevolking van Aruba bewust gaat worden over de diploma’s en veiligheid waar de therapistes mee omgaan. De Arubaanse bevolking zou meer moeten gaan vragen naar de EHBO en de HAM CODE (hygiene arbo en milieu code) aan hun therapistes.

Meneer Visser is bezig om deze opleiding in de ministerraad te promoten zodat Aruba het WELLNESS eiland van de WERELD gaat worden opgebied van veiligheid.
